| Arabic is the official language of more than 18 Arab countries and one of the six languages of the UNO. More than that, it is the language of Holy Quran. It has assumed special importance in the contemporary world. A couple of decades back students who chose Arabic as an elective subject did so to read its literature or facilitate touring and trade in Arab countries. Today, the story is different. It promises lucrative employment opportunities. It is therefore, no surprise that enrolment in Arabic courses in U.S Colleges registered 92% increase between 1998 and 2002. Following 9/11 and the Iraq war the demand for Arabic language has doubled not only in U.S but elsewhere as well.
The Masters programme in Arabic has been so conceived that the students master Arabic language and read its rich literature. The programme offers courses in English and use of Computers as well. This innovation, unique to the Arabic programme of this University, is aimed at improving employability of the pass outs.
