Advancements in Information Technology have contributed immensely in shrinking the world to a global Village. It has contributed to promotion of international trade, banking, and other services. It has widened the scope and horizon of institutes of learning and human health. In view of the far reaching impact this new technology has on our day-to-day life the School of Mathematical Sciences and Engineering is running Masters programme in Information Technology. It is aimed at producing skilled manpower in such prime areas as Systems Administration, Web Based Technology, E - business etc.
The M.Sc. I.T. is 2-year programme. In order to earn the degree the student is required to collect 96 credits. Every student has to offer and pass 21 courses in the first three semesters, which comprise 15 theory and 6 laboratory courses. The 4th semester is devoted exclusively to project work in different private and public sector institutions to provide real life practical training to trainees. Every student is required to write a dissertation based on the work done in the industry. The Department has provision for different specializations. Every student is required to offer and pass 2 out of the 8 elective courses that the Department runs.

Dissertation
Students are required to select a topic of their interest for dissertation work. Each student is required to submit a synopsis at the beginning of the semester for approval by the Project Advisory Committee in a specified format. Synopsis is to be submitted within two weeks of the commencement of semester. The first defence, of the dissertation work is held within a month of the beginning of dissertation work. Dissertation is to be submitted in a specified format to the school for evaluation.
