Department of Financial Management
Over the past two decades, financial management has undergone significant change in perception as well as in magnitude. Earlier, the focus was on raising funds. Financial managers were assigned little role in decision making and problem solving. Present thinking accords far greater i m p o r t a n c e t o f i n a n c i a l decision making and policy. Today, financial managers occupy key positions in management, and play dynamic role in solving complex problems and shaping fortunes of their business enterprises. Rapid expansion in the activities of financial markets, introduction of new financial institutions and instruments, driven by liberalization and globalization has further enhanced the importance of modern finance at national and international levels. Financial management has now emerged as a distinct discipline within the sphere of management studies. Because of this change in emphasis, the descriptive treatment of the subject of financial management is being replaced by growing analytical content and sound theoretical underpinnings. This is the approach adopted in this Masters programme.
